Merrill Bainbridge - Mouth
WOULD I BE SO BAD IF I COULD TURN YOU ON?
a song about consuming kisses/expressed desire for yr desire/it’s about turning YOU on/to consume you/to consume me/salty lips/THAT MESH DRESS THAT NECKLACE
Christalmighty you Tumblr feminists are making me like all the things I grew up hating…! I was 12 when this was on the radio all the time, I had completely forgotten about it.
What persephonette said, and also: What is it that the boy in the car will never meet my/the camera’s gaze; this was far too compelling to me because I am a ~lady photographer~ who usually photographs dudes because of power dynamics & other exciting relationships I can upset.
& even more compelling because I was torn between meeting her gaze as she was ignoring his advances (#1 convoluted fantasy expressing desire for desire then ignoring your desire) versus wanting him to return the gaze as object-I-can/not-possess.
WOW.
Sonny Vincent/The Testors: “MK Ultra”
Just got to see/hear this live in the refurbished punkhaus where I used to live. CHECK.
Shit Photographers Say
a short interview with Quintron & Miss Pussycat.
@2:00 FILE UNDER:
- height disparity between couples
- cute tall people doing cute height-related reactions around cute short people.
- all of my boyfrans are at least a foot taller than me
- things that look like the opposite of condescending
- please excuse my temporary rekindled obsession with this new/old thing i like
Quintron & Miss Pussycat: “Face Down in the Gutter”
Sometimes when I get upset about Important Issues on the Internet, I watch this clip and imagine that Pee-Wee is feminism (especially @0:25) and Francis is dudes.
Of Monsters & Men: “Little Talks”
(live at the KEX Hostel in Reykjavik during Iceland Airwaves ‘11, recorded 10/12/11)
Lately I have been worrying that I’ve gotten to That Age where I become stuck in my generation and can’t enjoy new music, but today a classmate introduced me to this song from a new-ish band and I think it is just beautiful! Like goosebumps and teary-eyed beautiful. (The lyrics are about an old woman speaking to her dead/ghost husband.)
Also, ATTN: ATHENS, Iceland sounds like Athens?
T. Rex: “Hot Love” (Feb 1972)
Me: ‘She lives on a ghost?’ What does that even mean, Marc Bolan, COME ON.
Colby: ‘She lives on the coast.’
Me: Oh, that’s boring. Is this the song about titties?
Colby: They are all about titties.
this music video is really Important because:
a. women reclaiming public space/space where harassment occurs
b. reappropriation of physical harassment thru the use of handprint imagery
c. reappropriation of masculine object (baseball bat) for self-defense by women
d. men shown performing physical labor as work/women shown performing physical labor for pleasure
e. deconstruction of ageism thru the inclusion of young & elderly women being complete badasses
f. centering around performance by women of color, which is refreshing when we as a culture just had to deal with the fucking white girl mafia
g. doooooope. beat. not going to pretend i don’t love this song (or rye rye in general)
