"Even our language reinforces the notion of physical strength as something that is strictly the domain of the male body. Think about the word ‘virile,’ one definition of which is ‘having the nature or properties of an adult male.’ A secondary definition is ‘energetic and vigorous,’ another is ‘masterful and forceful’ and the final definition is ‘manly vigor.’ Yet even though I feel energetic, vigorous and forceful, the word ‘virile’ will never be used to describe me. That would be fair enough if there were a word to describe womanly vigor, but the fact is, there isn’t one. The closest we get is an obscure little word — ‘muliebrity’ — but even that word fails, as it merely describes ‘the condition of being a woman’ (and let’s be honest, when was the last time you heard that word? In fact, when have you ever heard that word before? Not even my spellcheck thinks this is an actual word.)

“Our culture contains no language to describe a woman’s bodily strength. Considering that language is the base upon which all else is built, this is a fairly large oversight, don’t you think?"
