Today my birthdaughter (T.) & her family came to visit. She’s six years old. She drew me this cool new moth tattoo.
We all went to a frozen yogurt shop and a friend of mine was there so I said hi and introduced her like, “this is my friend, T.” (I’m not super secretive about the fact that I have a birthdaughter, & most of my in-person friends know this about me — it’s an open adoption so I visit with her & her adoptive family occasionally — but in a pinch, like for quick introductions, I usually just say “friend” simply to avoid overcomplication & save time).
After he went to get in line, T. asked me, “Why did you say I’m your friend? I’m not your friend, I’m your baby.” So I said, “I know that but we’re still friends, too.”
"Nuh-uh," she said, "You’re my first mom!" Then she got up from the table and approached my friend in line and explained the situation to him…
I mean,… I can’t imagine where she got that attitude! A+.
